About Me
I’m Wayne Eaker, a freelance consultant and web developer in Ann Arbor, Michigan, helping businesses and non-profits create custom solutions to integrate their internal systems and online resources. I have 25 years of programming experience and 15 years designing and developing web sites and applications. I am am fluent in several programming languages and frameworks as well as network and server administration. My specialty is building custom websites on the Drupal platform. I also have experience building iPhone applications with the iPhone SDK, and am a certified Java SE programmer.
I first started programming as a third-grader in the mid-80’s, with BASIC on the Commodore 64. After years of PC programming, BBS administration, and game modding, I built my first web site in 1995. After taking a short break from programming to earn a B.S. in physics (with a second major in religion) at Wake Forest, I returned to coding in 1999, when I wrote my own blog software. (There were no other options available at the time.) I used my blog to post travelogues as a took a year off to live in Prague and travel eastern Europe. My blog ran on that custom software for years, before I switched to Movable Type and eventually to Drupal.
From 2001 to 2008, I worked at Greenhills School as the system administrator. While there, I developed and taught introductory high school Computer Science courses. While working at Greenhills, I began building software and web sites as a freelancer on the side. In 2008, I made that freelance work my full time gig.
Since then, I’ve built several complex sites, including Greenhouse, an educational social networking platform. I’ve also developed and maintained the website Lunch Ann Arbor Marketing (LA2M), and built or helped with numerous smaller sites for the following clients:
